Overview

John Masefield House in Abingdon, Oxfordshire, is a specialist nursing home supporting adults facing behaviours that challenge complex dementia, learning disabilities, mental health conditions and associated co-morbidities. The service has recently changed management, bringing in a fresh perspective and renewed dedication to excellence in care. At John Masefield, we understand the complexities of finding suitable placements for individuals with specific needs. We welcome referrals for those who may be challenging to place and assure you that we will carefully review each case and arrange assessments promptly. Our dedicated team gets to know everyone well, quickly learning their preferences so that their needs can be responded to with respect and dignity.

The home is fully accessible and features ground-floor accommodation. Our garden and grounds are beautiful and sit within 4 acres of the River Thames, providing opportunities for residents to enjoy the fresh air, nature, and moments of peace. We are dedicated to providing compassionate, person-centred care, and we look forward to the opportunity to support individuals and their families on their journey to improved health and well-being.

Our chef cooks homely, delicious food. We take time to learn from our residents exactly what they like to eat and how they like it prepared. Our wonderful team collaborates with service users and their family/carers to provide specialist care, meaningful engagement and therapeutic activities. Our registered nurses are trained to deliver complex nursing care supporting each individual’s physical, mental and emotional needs through regular assessment, personalised care plans, behavioural management, medication management, communication support, and coordination of care with other healthcare professionals. By tailoring care to individual preferences and abilities, our complex nursing service aims to optimise quality of life and promote dignity for these individuals and their families. We support residents to build their skills, inspiring confidence and enabling everyone to live their best lives. Our carers provide personal care assistance, emotional support and reassurance.

We spend time getting to know each resident as a person, as well as their wishes, aspirations, passions and interests. We create a personalised support plan for each resident. Our activities team plan 1:1 and group activities in the home and community to enable everyone in our care to access as many meaningful opportunities as possible. This may include visits to local garden centres, bowling, or visiting beautiful surrounding towns in Oxfordshire or local pubs for lunch. We love to meet our service users’ families and friends to update them on activities in the home, updates on improvements, and receive their feedback.
