Overview
Abbeyfield House - Alnwick is part of Abbeyfield Northumbria, a registered charity that manages three residential care homes (ours in Alnwick and two in Newcastle) and two supporting living homes (in Berwick and Bamburgh).
We are a residential care home on the outskirts of the historical town of Alnwick, Northumberland. We offer the following:
1. Short stay (Respite Care) when a loved one is not ready to return home after a hospital stay or whether it is while the main carers/family members are on holiday.
2. Day care service: Getting work done on the house? Going to a family event that would be too much for the person or for them to stay on their own? Or maybe just looking for companionship?
3. Residential care: providing accommodation and personal care for up to 25 residents, some of whom are living with mild dementia-related conditions.
At Abbeyfield House, we pride ourselves in offering a home-from home-experience. We are devoted to making time to create a place where residents can feel involved, cared for and a valued member of the community. We ensure the home has positive interactions between staff and our residents and their loved ones.
There is a positive atmosphere in the home, promoting a culture that is person-centred, open, inclusive and empowering. Staff promote residents' independence and ensure they adhere to residents' privacy and dignity during moving and handling procedures and personal care tasks that are necessary. Staff ask for residents' consent before providing care, and work confidently and effectively with other healthcare professionals, ensuring residents have all their health requirements met.
Abbeyfield House ensures people are involved in making decisions about their care. They have the opportunity to have their say in a monthly residents' meeting with a Senior Staff member. We also have a residents' wellbeing champion, who interacts with all residents regularly and undertakes a monthly questionnaire survey.
Feedback from residents, staff and families is very important to us. A newsletter has been developed to celebrate good news and success stories, with a "meet the team" section, any news and upcoming events and examples of collaborative partnership working.
We understand and are passionate about, the importance of equality, diversity and inclusion. We aim to promote a highly positive environment for all our residents whose values and beliefs are promoted by the contributions offered by a diverse workforce. We work hard to deliver CQC's 5 Principles of Care.
