Overview

Welcome to the Cedars Care Home. Our location is near the busy town of Ashford, Middlesex just off the main High Street. We are just opposite the Spelthorne Council day care centre organised for the elderly, and the local church. There are plenty of high street shops in the close vicinity, including supermarkets, cafés, restaurants, charity shops and also parks. Ashford has two medical centres which are located close to the Cedars. We are also approx. about 1.5 miles from Ashford Hospital.
The community for the elderly is well served, and Ashford train station is just a short distance away which has fast rail links to the centre of London and the Southeast. The M25 and Heathrow Airport are close by, making it easy for family and friends to visit no matter what the distance.
We offer the following services:
Elderly Residential Care
Dementia Care
Respite & Long term Care
Pets Allowed

We have a dedicated skilled team ready to serve all your care needs from the highly trained Manager, Senior care staff, Activities Coordinator, Housekeeper, Chef and many other skilled staff. We only recruit the best staff, whom we’d be happy to allow to look after our loved ones.
At the Cedars our residents become part of the family. We only have 15 residents, and permanent & reliable staff, which means that our residents don’t get overwhelmed by the size, noises, and different faces.

Our Care
Our principle aim is to provide the highest quality of care, ensuring a comfortable and supportive environment where individuality, dignity and quality of life are paramount to the residents. The following principles help provide guidelines for the home to fulfil our aims.
PRIVACY: The right of a Resident to be valued, undisturbed whenever they wish.

DIGNITY: The understanding of a Residents needs and treating them with respect.

INDEPENDENCE: Allowing a Resident to take calculated risks, to make their own decisions and think and act for themselves.

CHOICE: Giving a Resident the opportunity to select from a range of alternative options.

RIGHTS: Keeping all basic human rights available to the Resident.

FULFILMENT: Enabling the Resident to realise their own aims and helping them to achieve these goals in all aspects of daily living.

We aim to provide an open and a positive environment, as we understand that this helps us recognise the needs of our residents and staff better. Our processes are constantly under review by the team to ensure we are able to fulfil the above principles.
Formal and informal meetings between the team take place throughout the day and regular discussion and feedback is actively sought and encouraged by management.

Activities
Our policy on activities takes into account the residents’ interests, skills, life experiences, personality and medical conditions. A wide variety of activities is on offer, all designed to encourage Residents to remain physically and psychologically as well as possible, and most importantly to continue to take an interest in life.
Our staff will encourage and in certain instances help Residents to pursue their previous hobbies and other interests.
Daily activities may include:
• Communication and reminiscence
• Manicures and other activities which promote body image and self-esteem.
• Crosswords, Puzzles, Word games, Quizzes, Card Games and Dominoes are enjoyed by many residents.
• Musical entertainment and pantomimes, where Residents may sit back and enjoy or join in.
• Special celebration of birthdays and other special annual events.
• Reading letters, magazines, newspapers.
• Invitation to participate in the day-to-day organisation, offering choice and involvement in daily life.
• Religious Service and community involvement.
• It is our aim to enable residents to visit local places of interest. Such places include:
? Local Garden Centres
? Further places of interest, such as Wisley Gardens.

Nutrition
Nutrition and hydration are essential to health and well-being. When well-managed, they provide a vital contribution for people recovering from illness and for those at risk of malnutrition. We follow best practice and offer nutritional food that meets the needs of the Resident, and guidelines set by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).
The CQC programme of themed inspections looked at dignity and nutrition issues for older people. One inspection looked at the experiences of older people in care homes and the other was a further programme of inspections in 50 NHS trusts, this time including both mental health and acute trusts.

Our residents are served 3 nutritious meals a day, plenty of snacks and drinks of choice. All food and drinks are catered to their likes and dislikes, choices and dietary needs. We have a permanent chef, who has been looking after our residents for 6 years and knows their requirements very well.
