Overview
The Abbeyfield Society began as a concept in the mid-fifties arising from a perceived need to provide support and companionship for elderly people living on their own. The first venture, in London's East End, was a house where nine residents and a housekeeper lived as an extended family unit. With this type of supportive care, it was seen that, as individuals regained confidence and self-esteem, their health improved and their independence grew.
The Abbeyfield Beaconsfield Society is a self-contained autonomous unit, and as such is responsible for all aspects of management and administration.
Bradbury House is a care home for adults over 65. Within our registration category we are able to care for the frail elderly including those with visual, hearing, sensory and mobility impairments; subject to a full care needs assessment
Our purpose built-home is situated in a peaceful location in Old Beaconsfield. It is within walking distance of the Old Town centre and local shops. Bradbury House has its own attractive landscaped garden, with numerous pathways providing wheelchair and walking aid access to all garden facilities, such as the summerhouse, patio and pond.
Bradbury House was conceived in 1988 because of a strongly felt local need for a care home in which people could spend the rest of their lives. It was built through the faith and vision of a group of local people drawn from the local churches.
Aims and Objectives
Bradbury House was built to provide a highly professional care service for the elderly, with an emphasis on reducing loneliness and isolation amongst older people, while enabling and encouraging individuals to retain their dignity and independence.
We recognise that Bradbury House is the Home of the residents and that they should be able to make it a 'home from home'. We have, therefore, set out to provide them with a happy family atmosphere in spacious and well-equipped surroundings. We aim to take into account each individual's needs, so that they can feel relaxed, comfortable and free from unnecessary worries
Although the Home has a Christian ethos, Bradbury House is not just a home for church members, but for everyone in the community. We maintain a fundamental respect for the individuality of each resident. Members of different churches and religions are encouraged to continue following their own beliefs. The clergy of all religions are invited to visit and lead worship in the Home. The
spiritual needs of residents close to death are given special attention. At Bradbury House, each resident is empowered and enabled to achieve their preferred life style in the Home and in the community. Residents retain, amongst other things, active memberships of church groups and local societies.
All residents are encouraged to make choices and to maintain community and family links. Often residents, with help from staff, family or friends are able to take advantage of the local coffee shops and pubs for a drink or a meal; some residents visit the town market that operates every Tuesday close to the Home. There are many varied activities in the home which are provided by the staff and volunteers.
The staff are flexible, working around the needs of the residents. Each resident has a designated keyworker and together they compile a positive care plan with attainable goals to ensure that the physical, emotional, social needs and the wishes of our residents are met.
Everyone who is involved in the organisation and management of Bradbury House encourages the residents to feel at home and comfortable. Residents are encouraged to furnish their rooms to suit individual tastes and we welcome their views about the running of the Home. The staff and volunteers want to help residents to make choices about the lives they lead within a caring, safe environment and to help them and their relatives feel part of an extended family
The Home has 42 en-suite rooms, built in four wings. The residents have exclusive use of their rooms and are welcome to bring personal items and any of their own furniture that can be safely accommodated in their rooms. All rooms are centrally heated and are connected to a call system with privacy locks on doors and a lockable facility to secure valuables and personal items.
Social Rooms:
There is a large lounge and a separate dining room on the ground floor and each of the four wings has its own sitting room and kitchen. There is central heating throughout. Our residents are encouraged to use the communal rooms; however, those who prefer to stay in their own rooms can do so.
Caring for the wellbeing of our residents is central to everything we do;
All staff are fully committed to Bradbury House values, our residents can expect to receive high standards of service from all of our team.
