Overview
Kimbolton is a home in the area of Bedford, which can accommodate just over 5 residents - it has a 'Good' rating from the CQC.
Kimbolton is a six bedded residential home for people with learning disabilities. We have 4 residents now and 2 bedrooms are void.
We have dedicated, competent and well-trained staff members, who are available on site 24 hours a day with a waking night and a sleep-in staff member.
We provide person centred care that is catered for each person that we support that considers their needs and preferences and goals and always treat individuals with dignity and respect.
Kimbolton has recently been refurbished and has a new kitchen, laundry room, conservatory, new windows, and floors. There is disabled access via a ramp at the front and side of the house. There is a communal kitchen and a communal lounge diner. There is a communal bathroom with bath, toilet and shower and a downstairs communal toilet. Some rooms have en-suite facilities and others just a cloakroom. There is a beautiful back garden used for relaxing and barbeques.
Kimbolton is situated close to the town centre in Bedford which is accessible on foot or by car. There are several parks and the embankment for residents to visit, cinemas and restaurants and local places of interest.
Management and staff have an excellent relationship with families and professionals.
Staff plan daily and weekly activities for the residents and annual holidays are planned where they are supported by staff to visit a destination of their choice.
Families are welcome to visit Kimbolton at any time and are welcome to attend social events at the home.
Achievements and Areas of Improvement Recognition of Achievements:
Kimbolton improved their overall rating from “Requires improvement” to “Good” last year and we continue to make improvements in all areas to provide high quality care.
Areas of Improvement:
We Support our service users in engaging in meaningful activities of their choice. These include walks in the park, day centres, bowling, snooker, tennis, running, cinema, picnics etc. They are then able to socialise, take part in the community, exercise, pursue their goals and achieve positive outcomes.
Examples of Innovation:
Nourish, a care management system that helps to plan, record, report and coordinate and Deputy, is a software that organises and manages teams through the staff rota, timesheet, time, and clock will soon be launched in Kimbolton.
Outstanding Practice:
Staff consistently train and improved on their skills. This includes communicating more effectively as a team. Daily notes, reports are now more comprehensive with dignifies language that helps to communicate effectively. We review risk assessments, support plans, medication, decision making, the environment and all necessary documents regularly to ensure the people we support are safe, well cared for and risks well managed to support individuals live independent lives.
We encourage families and people we support to compliment and make complaints when necessary, so that we can improve practice.
We have one staff member who completed her nursing degree and continues to support people here at Kimbolton. Staff FB is currently working on completing her apprenticeship level 2. Staff PD is working towards completing a Nursing degree. All training is going on well to ensure staff are competent and qualified to support our residents so that they too can achieve their life goals.
Successes and Goals Achieved:
Goals are reviewed regularly to ensure there are positive outcomes for the people we support.
For example, staff have effectively supported BH to achieve his goals by having 1 to 1 regular chat and supporting him in the community. He recently joined the Gig Buddy 5k run and has been practicing 2 times a week at the Bedford Park. BH is absolutely smashing it. This will improve his physical wellbeing and mental wellbeing.
