Overview
Waterloo House Care Home Limited is a home in the area of Bedford, which can accommodate just under 25 residents - it has a 'Good' rating from the CQC. Care can be provided for those with dementia and mental health needs.
Our aim is to provide quality care tailored to the needs of the individual. We believe that this allows us to help each person to maintain their independence whilst providing them with the support they require for all aspects of their daily lives. The home promotes holistic care achieved through teamwork, training and skill mixes. There are approximately 21 staff within the home. All required to undertake mandatory training in Health & Safety, Manual Handling etc. and the Home is committed to NVQ training with the 95% of staff having achieved or working towards level 2 and above.
As a residential Home we provide 24-hour care for each person. It is our aim to give support and promote independence with all aspects of daily living. In order to ensure that we do this each person’s care package is individually designed taking into account their needs, abilities and personal care package. Our care delivery is planned with you and your family to ensure that this is achieved.
The dedicated staff team at Waterloo House provide a wealth of experience and knowledge gained training and personal development to help ensure the quality of care provided.
Accommodation
There are 23 rooms, 8 of which are en-suite. All other rooms contain a vanity unit with hand basin and hot & cold running water. Each room is fully carpeted and comfortably furnished. Clients are encouraged to personalise their rooms with favourite items of furniture, pictures, ornaments etc. we believe that this helps to provide a homely atmosphere and allows clients to maintain their individuality.
Each room has a call alarm system which is linked to display units on all four levels of the Home allowing staff to identify the caller and respond directly. This system is also installed in all bathroom and toilet facilities, dining area and lounges.
The conservatory is a pleasant communal area where clients can relax and socialise. There is also a quiet lounge on the first floor for reading, entertaining visitor’s etc. if preferred.
Care Provision
As a Residential Home we provide 24-hour care to our clients. It is our aim to give support and promote independence with all aspects of their daily lives. In order to ensure that we do this each client care package is individually designed taking into account their needs, abilities and personal preferences. Our care delivery is planned with the client and their family to ensure that this is achieved. The dedicated staff team at Waterloo House provide a wealth of experience and knowledge gained through training and personal development to help ensure the quality of care provided. This will be updated regularly and if you wish to have any changes made at any time you can discuss this with your key worker.
Key worker
On admission to the Home, you will be allocated a key worker. Although every single member of staff is here to help at any time you need them, your key worker will give any extra support you need, help with shopping, writing correspondence, organising your care plan, tidying your belongings etc. The aim is to provide you with a key person to help you settle into your new home and assist you when needed.
Medical Care & other Facilities
If possible, clients are encouraged to stay registered with their own GP. Anyone not able to do so can be registered with one of the local surgeries that visit the Home. Goldharts chemist provides a prompt and efficient delivery service to the Home for all medication. If you wish to take any medications other than prescribed by your GP please inform staff on admission so that we can record them following our homely remedies policy.
We have a chiropodist and optician who visit the Home regularly and can arrange for dentistry, occupational therapy and physiotherapy as required. However, if you prefer to stay registered with your own chiropodist or visit a different optician you are welcome to do so and your keyworker will help you to make arrangements for this. Dentistry, occupational therapy can be arranged as required.
Meals, Drinks and Snacks
There is a four-week rotational menu offering a varied choice of meals. Individual dietary needs can be catered for if required.
Whilst clients may choose to have their meals served in their own room if they wish we hope that the pleasant and informal atmosphere of the dining room will encourage them to join with others in taking their meals there.
Although meals are generally served at set times we aim to be as flexible as possible to accommodate for individual preferences. Morning coffee and afternoon tea is served to each client in the lounge or in their room if preferred. Light snacks and drinks are available at any time.
