Overview

The Adelaide Nursing Home is a large detached property situated on the corner of New Church Road and
Glebe Villas in Hove. An Edwardian property built by the architect Charles Chivers as his private residence.
The home is registered with the Care Quality Commission for 35 service users. All of the rooms are available in
single occupancy residence and over 90 % of bedrooms are en-suite. The home has a variety of facilities to cater
for service users with varying mobility constraints in order to maintain their wellbeing and comfort. The home is
also equipped with an excellent fire alarm system for the service users’ safety and peace of mind.
THE DAY AREA
We have 2 recreational areas – an existing one on the ground floor and a newly built one on the first floor in the
east wing. This new space is bright and sunny with a small kitchen area and is used for entertainment and other
social activities. The lounge on the ground floor leads directly out to the garden and offers further opportunity
for residents to socialise, watch television with friends or have a quiet chat or catch up on their reading. There
is a dedicated dining area on the ground floor with tables for two or four. Residents have the choice to either sit
in their armchairs for meals or at the dining tables or in their own room. The home has a mature garden for the
use of residents and their visitors. We have a summer house at the back of the garden and various seating areas
plus a raised herb garden which offers a unique sensory experience. We also have a lovely arbor and a rockery.
INTERESTS AND ACTIVITIES
The Adelaide Nursing Home prides itself on giving each service user the choice of how to live. Each person may
choose how they spend their day, some; by choice remain in their rooms where they receive guests for as long
as they please. Others strike up friendships in the day room or join in one of the activities held there. We have a
wide variety of activities on offer – artwork, music, visits from an animal sanctuary, exercises, knitting club,
board and floor games, trips out to the theatre, shopping and garden centres. We also accompany residents to
Wish Park and to the shops in nearby Boundary Road in fine weather and Hove seafront is a mere ten minutes
walk away. We are also fortunate enough to have a local nursery come in on Tuesday mornings and this provides
a lovely source of engagement between the children and our service users. We may be able to incorporate other
activities at your request.
The Adelaide has three dedicated Activity Co-coordinators.
On pre-assessment and at regular intervals thereafter discussions will take place to determine the service user’s
choice of social activities.PRIVACY AND DIGNITY
Service users are encouraged to treat The Adelaide as their own home for the duration of their stay with us. We
encourage the use of furnishing and decorations from home. Each service user’s room may be considered their
own; as such they are entitled to a degree of privacy and as defined by them. Individuality too is encouraged,
service users are encouraged to express themselves, and they are in effect members of a community within the
home.
Confidentiality will be considered one of the fundamental rights of all. Any information kept by the home will be
treated as confidential and kept from all except those designated by the service users and appropriate health
care professionals whose judgment depends on that information.
