Overview

St Leonards Place is a home in Chatham that can accommodate residents with learning disabilities.

The service was established using the ethos of “Wolfensberger normalization theory,” which is the principle of normalization, to offer social care to individuals with a learning disability.
St. Leonards Place set out to enable any potential client to have access to their own flat based in the local community.
Each flat is run as the individual's own home, where the clients would be encouraged to live as normal life as possible within the local community.
St. Leonards Place aims to offer a less restrictive living environment, which is often encountered within larger group home settings.

Over the past 30 years, St Leonards Place has successfully retained 50% of its initial staff workforce, with multiple staff moving into their second decade and, in some cases, third with the company.
St. Leonards Place does not use agency staff; as we know for residents with learning disability, the continuity of care is very important to avoid unnecessary distress.
Looking back on the past 30 years, St Leonards Place is an evolving and award-winning social care service that has been pioneering in the services it offered long before any talk of “white papers.”
We continue to support a client group that has been in place for 25 to 30 years and successfully has given lifetime placement and career opportunities to everyone involved in our service, something we should never forget and be eternally proud of at this time.

We aim to provide various activities to our service users, including home life skills, personal care skills, housework, meal preparation, shopping within the community, gardening, and social and community-based activities.
The Home provides a list of exercises/ stimulating activities outside the premises:
- walks with the group to Cobtree Manor Park, Capstone Farm Park, The Strand, Leeds Castle, Aylesford Priory, and all the different riversides.
- horse riding lessons
- Bowling and eating out weekly with the group.
- lots of picnics out with the group as the weather permits.

Why choose St Leonards Place?

- The home focuses on resident wellbeing and offers daily outings to local parks, shops, and cinemas.

- At St Leonards Place, we have our transport available to all of our service users to enable them to participate in outside activities and other places of interest.
