Overview
Heather House is a residential care home, located in Birtley, Durham. Here, we provide high-quality support for people with autism, challenging behaviour, epilepsy, down’s syndrome and learning disabilities.
Heather House is a home in the Birtley area of Chester Le Street, which can accommodate 11 people we support. Heather House is a two-storey home with 10 bedrooms and a separate one-bedroom bungalow. The home has lots of shared communal areas, including a spacious living room, dining room and kitchen, perfect for the people we support to learn independent living skills.
At Heather House, the people we support enjoy days out to our the open-air museum and country parks. We also have regular days out in Gateshead, Newcastle and Durham where we visit historical museums, cat cafes, theatres, and our local steam train railway, where they host afternoon tea on the train. We attend events such as community discos well as trips to the cinema, the bowling alley, the local library, restaurants and cafes and picnics during the warmer months. Staff actively encourage and assist the people we support to our local village hall where they join in with activities including keep fit classes, bingo and table top fairs and our local gym where staff support healthy lifestyle options.
