Oaklands Nursing Home is a residential and nursing home in the Littleton area of Chester, which can accommodate 50 residents - it has a 'Good' rating from the CQC. Oaklands Nursing Home also offers the following short stay services: respite care.
Oaklands has been in the same family of Directors for nearly 35 years, with the current generation of Directors working closely with the stable Management team that has been in place since 2018. The home provides 24-hour nursing care in a happy, homely environment where residents are assured safety and security. Oaklands is known for its warm and friendly atmosphere: a home in a home!
Oaklands features beautiful facilities including en-suite bedrooms, three lounges, a dining room and attractively maintained grounds that feature a sensory walk. It maintains some of the building’s lovely old features yet has a rolling refurbishment programme to ensure that it is regularly refreshed.
Oaklands has a diverse activities programme, including music therapy, Dementia choir, chair-based exercise, outings, bingo, reminiscence, art workshops and inter generational visits.
The catering provision at Oaklands is highly-rated, with a diverse, seasonal and freshly prepared menu delivered by a knowledgeable and engaged Catering Team. Not only delicious, the recipe for our creative and nutritious snacks were shared with the Community Dietitians in 2023 as they were so successful in promoting the health of our residents.
Oaklands ran a recruitment drive throughout 2022-23 which has resulted in a diverse, hard-working and incredibly caring team of staff. Team members undertake mandatory and extended training, assisted by the in-house trainer, and stay up-to-date on the latest developments in elderly care.
A continuous improvement programme, audits, internal monitoring, surveys are all part of Oaklands’ robust quality assurance systems and processes. The team has developed strong relationships with many external health professionals and disciplines, including completion in 2023 of several accreditations: the EOLP Six Steps to Success in End of Life Care; My Care Home Life Leadership Programme; Nutrition Pilot.

Additional Information
- My Home Life Care Home Pioneer Programme, achieved July 2023 A leadership support and development programme in which our Manager took part to further advance her skills in effectively managing the day to day challenges. A very useful programme that teaches and encourages Action Learning techniques through a continuous process of action, learning and reflection, supported by colleagues, with an intention of improving practice.
- 5* Food Hygiene Rating, Food Standards Agency, Achieved February 2024 99% scored across the inspected categories of Hygienic food handling; Cleanliness and condition of facilities and building; Management of food safety. For example, this includes looking at how food is stored and prepared and the adequacy of checks in place to ensure the safety of the food being served.
- Dietitian-Led Delivery Service Pilot, Countess of Chester NHS Trust, achieved 2nd October 2032 Working closely with the Community Nutrition and Dietetic Service, on a 4-month pilot trialling a dietitian-led direct to care home Oral Nutritional Supplement Delivery Service. The close collaboration and new route of delivery - directly via dietitians and not via the GP - led to increased knowledge in staff of risk of malnutrition and appropriate and early actions, improving outcomes for our residents measured by weight gain, appetite and general condition.
- Six Steps to Success in End of Life Care, achieved May 2023 This programme, run by the End of Life Partnership, aims to enhance end of life care through facilitating organisational change and supporting and educating staff to develop their roles around end of life care. We had two representatives/End of Life Champions who attended the monthly workshops and completed related tasks. At the workshops, they were supported to develop their own knowledge and skills and encouraged subsequently to empower and educate other staff within our setting to deliver end of life care. The programme included a Learning Log for other members of staff, not just the representatives, to complete, to ensure that the learning was not just restricted to the representatives.
