Overview
The Old Vicarage is a home in the area of Chippenham, which can accommodate just under 20 residents - it has a 'Good' rating from the CQC.
This delightful care home is a medium size home of 19 rooms with the option of, doable rooms, its long-established (1968), friendly, and comfortable with family proprietors in residence.
The Old Vicarage is a magnificent and spacious grade II listed building built circa 1678. It has a Georgian facade of natural bathstone. St Mary Street is a cul-du-sac, situated in the middle of town, in the only conservation area left in Chippenham. To the rear of the house is Monkton Park and the River Avon, our garden which is half an acre runs down to the river. The view from the rear of the house, across the garden, river, and park is quite magnificent.
The Old Vicarage is opposite St Andrews Church, which several of our residents attend, and other church denominations in the town.
The Old Vicarage enjoys a quiet location yet is only a few minutes walk from the centre of this ancient thriving Wiltshire market town. It is on the London to Bath A4 road and is 3 miles south of junction 17 off the M4, 12 miles from Bath, 22 miles from Bristol and 18 miles from Swindon.
As a family living and working at the Care Home, we also employ a dedicated and well-trained staff on call 24 hours a day. All our staff are required to undertake the National Vocational Qualification in care. This enables us to provide a care package specifically tailored to meet the needs of all residents; most staff have been with us for many years.
During the initial trial period with our support, each resident devises his or her care plan. With the resident’s approval, family, friends, or professionals are given the opportunity to contribute to an agreed care plan. This personal plan outlines the particular needs, and wishes of the individual and establishes the appropriate level of care required. A key worker will be provided and is responsible for monitoring the care plan, and reviews are conducted monthly.
All our food is home-cooked, breakfast is served between 6.45 am and 9.30 am, and a wide choice of cereals and toast is served in resident’s rooms. At 10.30ish, mid-morning drinks are served. Lunch is served in our oak-panelled dining room at 1.00 pm, which consists of three courses, with a choice of main dish, finishing with cheese, biscuits, tea or coffee. Wine is also served on Sunday. Afternoon tea is served in the sitting room at 4 pm, which consists of bread and butter, cake, and biscuits. At 6. pm a four-course supper is served in the dining room followed by drinks. Evening drinks such as hot chocolate Horlicks are taken around about 8.45. We provide a daily paper of your choice, and an individual small bottle of squash on a tray. Residents with special dietary requirements have special diet sheets which ensure their needs are met.
We have a 24-hour alarm call system in the house with staff on duty 24 hours a day. Baths are done by a carer using a bath chair hoist, or residents can bath or shower themselves. You may select the doctor of your choice, chiropody is either every six weeks privately at £24 or free via the N.H.S. The hairdresser calls every two weeks on a Tuesday morning and he is very reasonable in his charges around £10.00. Laundry is done nightly; charges are only made for articles that need to be sent out for dry cleaning.
The house is tastefully decorated with many antique items dotted around the house in keeping with the age of the home. Most rooms are large, and all have en-suite facilities. The resident’s private rooms are the most important accommodation in the home. Our policy is to offer private unfurnished rooms so that residents can personalise the room with all their possessions so that it can be genuinely called “home” We believe this helps to personalise rooms, assists in settling in, and helps to lessen the trauma of moving home. Rooms have TV—and telephone points, as well as well as two call alarm points. Apart from the two charges mentioned, above there are no extras, everything is inclusive.
The home does not solely determine our Annual Review Procedure. We believe it is essential for self-funding clients that a mechanism exists whereby the home does not solely determine fee reviews, accordingly, we confirm that our fee reviews are only reviewed annually and come into effect from the 1st of April each year. Changes in the room rate are calculated based on the Governments Retail Price Index (RPI) and Living Wage figures as published in January of each year
This % figure is added to the room rate and fixed for 12 months. We believe this
approach gives peace of mind to those who fund themselves long-term care and are looking for a “Home for Life”.
While a letter, additional information and our brochure, are very helpful in giving you an impression of our home, we believe that most residents choose our home because of its friendly homely
