Winash – A Brief History

Winash was built during the Victorian Period and was originally two houses (Winash House & Garfield House). The two houses were joined together via an extension by the Wood family to become the large house we know today.
During World War 2 Winash house was used as a maternity hospital and was then turned into a nursing home and a residential home for ‘retired gentle folk’.
The Wood family bought Winash in 1973. They lived and worked and raised their children here, providing on-site care as and when residents needed them, 24 hours a day. 50 years later, Winash is managed by Heather House, the second generation of the family to manage and own the business. Heather is a Registered Nurse; she became manager in 1996 and took over ownership in 2003.

Winash residential home reached the finals of the Care & Support West Care Awards 2022 to be named as one of the top 3 care homes in the southwest and our Housekeeper, Andi, won Support Staff member of the year 2022, for a second time. We are proud of the numerous awards we have won over the past 8 years.

Winash residential home is a vibrant, energetic space. You’ll find an inclusive
community and friendly staff to support you to live as independently as possible.

You’ll have opportunities to engage in a fulfilling and rewarding way of living.

Whether you enjoy tending the garden, brain games, or pottering around the
seafront, you’ll find encouragement and assistance to continue your interests.
