The Chestnuts is a 14-bed residential home providing 24hr personal & social care to male and female adults who have a learning disability and associated diagnosis. Many of the residents have a learning disability affecting communication, socialisation & flexibility of thought. Its manifestation is variable for individuals.

For those at The Chestnuts it includes but is not restricted to;

. An impairment in communication skills
. A rigidity in thought processes
. An inability to accurately assess risk
. An impairment in the ability to forward plan and a lack of understanding of the consequences of such action

The experienced support team at The Chestnuts develop person centred plans with residents and appropriate others which help to identify specific needs and desires.
The further development of specific individual support plans enables consistency in support whilst lessening the opportunity to over or under support.

The Chestnuts Support Team
Lisa Borley was appointed manager in June 2021. Lisa has over 25 years’ experience supporting people with learning disabilities, mental health and Nursing in a variety of settings. Lisa is qualified to level 5 in health and social care. Lisa has previously managed a team of 50+staff within Residential care, learning disability and Nursing settings before working at The Chestnuts. Lisa is committed to ensuring the staff are properly supported to provide care and encouragement to enable all the residents living at The Chestnuts to gain essential skills to support them in their daily lives.

All staff at The Chestnuts has received an enhanced DBS and training appropriate to their role.

Training needs and opportunities for further development are identified through supervision and annual appraisal for all staff.

All staff has a professional responsibility to respect the rights of residents, treat them with respect and dignity and protect them as far as possible from danger or harm.
