Awards
  • Devon and Cornwall Outstanding Contribution to Health and Social Care – Bronze Award – Angela Brooker Angela Brooker trained as a state enrolled nurse in London before coming to Doveridge Care Home as a Senior Care Officer. After 32 years in her role she decided to concentrate on the care of her residents and felt better able to as a Senior Care Assistant. Purely and simply – Angela is Doveridge. The owners say it was because of the impression Angela made upon them that they brought the home 23 years ago. She has committed her life to caring for others even when it’s meant juggling her own life to accommodate this. Angela used to work split shifts as she enjoyed getting the residents up in the morning and then being there again to settle them back to bed in the evening. Over the years families will often say’ Angela is Doveridge’. Angela has supported her residents and colleagues through the many changes of health and social care over the years. One of Angela’s many achievements was to overcome her fear of technology. Angela is very hands on, so when technology was introduced to oversee care plans she was understandably apprehensive. From not understanding how technology could aid help, Angela soon became skilful in creating and maintaining care-plans on the computer. A couple of years ago the home upgraded the medication system to an electronic administration system. Angela took all the new technology training and equipment in her stride and can now be seen at times multitasking two laptops at the same time!! Angela is our Diabetes Ambassador at Doveridge ensuring the residents, families and staff are kept up to date with the latest information. Angela signed up to Diabetes UK and self-funded this and she uses her spare time to research. Angela has been completely devoted to her role. Nothing has ever been too much trouble, always reliable, and with a ready smile. Angela is truly our angel. Thank You.
  • Devon and Cornwall Care Home of the Year – Bronze Award – Doveridge The team at Doveridge pride themselves on their close relationship between residents, staff and families. Doveridge has often been described as being like an extended family. The team promote an environment where everyone is made to feel valued as part of the home. The skills, talents and experiences of our staff and residents are identified and utilised within the home. One example of this was when a few residents showed an interest in gardening, highlighted through the ‘life histories’ in their care plans. The registered manager researched interior designs for indoor gardens. The staff and residents were then consulted for feedback. As this was positive, the maintenance men were challenged with creating our new indoor garden. This comprises of a garden bench, themed wall paper and astro-turf carpet. Our aim is for our residents at Doveridge to really feel that this is their home. This is demonstrated and led by example from the management team who share their experience and knowledge. Care is of consistently high quality and the team are passionate about this. The team place great importance in understanding the likes, dislikes, hobbies, life experiences and interests of the residents. This is compiled into a life history which is kept in the office where staff can read it and add to as they learn more about the needs of each individual.
  • National Care Home Provider of the Year – Doveleigh Care Limited Doveleigh Care Limited won the Care Home Group of the Year category and the prestigious National Care Home of the Year award.
