Overview
Pendruccombe House Residential and Nursing Home centres around the original Pendruccombe House built for Lord Halsbury in 1881. Since the turn of the century it has been a school and, since 1987, a residential home.
The property is positioned in a popular residential area of Launceston. The main public amenities and facilities are only a short distance away. Every sitting room and dining room enjoys superb views over the scenic Tamar Valley and Dartmoor.
There is plenty of outdoor seating in the garden and, in addition there is a conservatory area which faces the sun and panoramic views.
The residential home is the original Pendruccombe House and is a fine example of Victorian architecture. This was completely refurbished in 1987 to become a comfortable home for elderly people. The installation of a passenger lift, a 24 hour nurse call system and all the requirements to meet with the very latest regulations, none of which detract from the homely atmosphere. The thoughtful conversion makes it a very comfortable home for the elderly.
After the residential home was established it was realised that some people had needs which meant they required more extensive care. As a result a purpose built nursing home was constructed alongside the main house.
None of the installations, such as the passenger lift and fire prevention equipment, detract from the lovely atmosphere. Indeed, the Home meets all the latest requirements and is registered by the Care Quality Commission.
We recognise that the decision, both of the potential resident and of their relatives, to take a place in a care home is often a difficult one and that the principal driver is the requirement for the constant availability of qualified nursing staff.
In this knowledge, our philosophy is to provide a happy and comfortable home. Our staff are trained to understand that the needs of individual residents can vary greatly and this individuality is reflected in their care plans. Whilst we provide twenty-four hour nursing care, we encourage independence and we will give as much or as little assistance as required.
A good social life is as important as medical attention and a caring environment. We encourage social interaction amongst our residents. Residents’ friends and relatives are encouraged to visit regularly and are welcomed at any time.
Pendruccombe House is home to most of our residents and as such is run for their convenience, not ours. This means freedom to choose in all areas of their daily routines without disturbing the enjoyment of others. We hope our residents will live as happy and fulfilled lives with us as they might with their families.
