Overview

Walker Lodge is a purpose-built service that provides residential support and respite care for individuals with acquired brain injuries. The primary aim is to offer a supportive environment where people can develop the skills and strategies needed to live more independent and fulfilling lives.

The service helps individuals through personalised goal setting and specialised therapy interventions. These may include neuro-psychology, neuro-physiotherapy, neuro-speech and language therapy, and neuro-occupational therapy, all integrated into daily living tasks by the support team.

Walker Lodge caters to individuals with a variety of needs, including those with head or brain injuries, cognitive or executive functioning difficulties, ongoing therapeutic requirements, physical or sensory impairments, dual diagnoses (e.g. mental health issues related to brain injury), and those facing behavioural challenges due to brain injury.

The service has a strong record of helping people achieve greater independence, including supporting them to transition into independent accommodation when appropriate. It also provides long-term support, with regular reviews to ensure the service adapts to individuals' changing needs.

Committed to person-centred care, Walker Lodge focuses on individual aspirations while ensuring safety and wellbeing. The service is designed to promote personal ownership and motivation, with the multidisciplinary team working together to support each individual.

The home includes eight accessible rooms with en-suite bathrooms, fully wheelchair accessible areas, and provisions for ceiling tracked hoists and profiling beds if necessary. The people we support are encouraged to personalise their rooms. Other amenities include a dining room with patio doors to a garden, a large accessible kitchen, a bathroom, a spacious lounge, and an activity/therapy room.
