Overview

Nightingale Hammerson is a leading expert in residential, nursing, respite, dementia and palliative care that has been serving the Jewish community for over 180 years. We are delighted to have been re-awarded the status of ‘Outstanding’ for our latest CQC inspection.

We offer world-class holistic care in a safe, stimulating environment at Nightingale House in Clapham. Our individually tailored service offers a ‘home from home’ – with kind, compassionate residential, nursing, dementia, respite and palliative care. Residents are able to live life to the full in the knowledge that they are cared for in a safe, stimulating and respectful environment. We focus on a relationship centred care approach, highlighting the importance of meeting the needs of the Resident but also addresses the needs of relatives and care teams. We recognise that quality care only happens when there are strong relationships between everyone involved in a Resident’s care.

Nightingale House embraces a multi-disciplinary approach to end-of-life care, involving doctors, nurses and members of the therapy team in order to provide comprehensive support to Residents and their families. We provide palliative care for residents at end-of-life or needing short-term support to help them through an illness. We implement strategies to ensure the comfort and dignity of our Residents at this sensitive stage of life.

Medical services
Our onsite GP is available to all Residents within our ground floor medical suite. The GP will also visit Residents in their rooms, if that is easier. This service is also supported by our onsite Pharmacy Technician.

Therapies
We have one of the largest Therapy Teams situated within a Care Home setting in the UK, providing easily accessible Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy and Moving and Handling support. Residents can benefit from therapies in our ground floor Therapy Department. The Team also visit the Households and Residents’ rooms directly, should this be more convenient for a Resident. In addition, the Team offer exercise classes on the households and run a large ‘falls prevention programme’.

Engagement
At the very heart of our ethos is an exceptional programme of inclusive engagement that ensures Residents can enjoy a wide variety of opportunities to keep active and become involved. We understand that one person’s hobbies or interests may be of no interest to another. Residents also come from many walks of life or they require varying levels of care and support. Our engagement programme therefore provides variety and choice, so that everyone can become involved with an activity they enjoy.

Volunteers
In order for us to provide such an array of activities and things to do, we really do rely on our wonderful, dedicated volunteers who donate time, expertise and passion for many subjects and activities. Their support really does enhance the quality of our Residents’ lives. Our volunteers, whilst bringing much enjoyment, also bring support to Residents on a practical level, which is particularly helpful for Residents who do not have family.

Synagogue
We are an inclusive Jewish Home, respecting everyone’s religious traditions, as well as those who consider themselves non-religious, cultural Jews. Our weekly Shabbat and festival services take place in our beautiful synagogue. Services are led by our Religious Co-ordinator, Rafi, who will also bring these to the households if Residents are unable to visit the synagogue

Intergenerational care
Nightingale House was the first UK Care Home to open an onsite nursery for children aged 2-5 years. There are daily programmes for our nursery children and Residents to come together and join in fun and active things to do. This could be baking bread, reading to one another, children performing in a concert or playing games with Residents.

The garden café
The café is a sociable space for Residents and for visiting Friends and Family. We offer delicious, dairy meals and snacks as well as a good choice of coffees, teas and soft drinks. Ice creams and ice lollies are also available for the visiting grandchildren and Residents alike. The garden café leads to an outside terrace and is a lovely spot to enjoy and view our beautiful gardens.
