Overview
The service is based at a property in Lenham, Kent. We offer the opportunity for up to 13 children and/or adults with learning disabilities to participate in short breaks at any one time. We have a highly skilled team and have extensive successful experience of working with people with very complex needs as well as other for whom this feels more like a fun holiday away with friends.
We are passionate that like everything else we do, we get things right for and with people. To do so we find meaningful ways of evaluating the quality of service including seeking feedback following every visit from families and individuals, undertaking spot management visits, observations, surveys and participating as necessary in care reviews. In the light of these we make necessary changes.
The short breaks services is registered with and regulated by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) as a Care Home (Respite and Short Breaks). We therefore work to comply with their standards of being Safe, Caring, Effective, Responsive to People’s Needs and Well Led. We are inspected by CQC and currently hold a ‘Good’ rating for these services.
We operate an in-house quality assurance system via a process of visits and checks against the CQC and our own standards and make ongoing changes/developments in the light of our findings.

Symbol’s Outreach service provides care and support to adults aged 18 and over. The objective of Symbol's Care and Support in the Home Service is to help people to improve or maintain their well-being and to live as independently as possible.
Our Community Care and Support in the Home Services are designed to promote individual well-being and keep people safe, help people do as much as they can for themselves and allow people to live as independently as possible in their own home. Care and Support in the Home can provide suitable alternatives to Residential, Hospital, Parental or other care provisions.
Not everybody that Symbol works with needs support on an intensive basis. Some people are able to live on their own or with a partner or friend etc. very successfully, provided that they have just the right targeted support that enables them to manage effectively. They may face only a few particular challenges with one or more aspects of living independently. This might be any of a wide variety of things, for example, managing money and bills, managing medication or personal health issues. A few hours a week, or each day, of carefully planned support can keep everything on track.
