Overview
The Service
• Wansbeck House is a mixed-gender LD residential service in Jesmond, Newcastle. Located within the Northern Counties School site, in a self-contained flat on the 3rd floor.
• Our age range is 17–30-years to allow a transition period for young people aged 17 moving from Children’s services to Adult Residential, and to keep the service a younger adult’s provision.
• All residents have personalised specialist programmes and care plans to support their development in communication, independence and employability skills helping them make the successful transition into adulthood.
• We offer residential placements tailored to meet individual requirements typically for periods of up to 2 years as part of a transition support plan.
• In addition we can offer transition support to young people who are looking for a transitional placement between living at home/children’s services and moving into independent or ISL or permanent residential accommodation.
• Wansbeck has 8 separate individualised bedrooms and residents can access the communal living areas, open planned kitchen area, separate chill out room, 2 bathrooms (1 with overhead hoist), 1 walk in shower room and a separate toilet and external fenced off field within the grounds (out of school hours).
• All external and internal doors are locked and accessed by a fob system.

Residential Inclusion Criteria
• Must have a confirmed Learning Disability diagnosis.
• Between the age of 17-30 years old.
• Might have physical disabilities or communication needs.
• Might have complex needs that require specialist support, therapies, or interventions.
• Might display behaviours that are challenging and require specific attention.
• Might fall under DoLs or exhibit vulnerability or a need for safeguarding due to factors as exploitation or abuse.
• Secondary mental health diagnosis
• Those requiring support in developing independent living skills, or assistance with daily living activities such as personal care, meal preparation or medication management.
• Those with history of multiple exclusions and family/carer breakdowns
Exclusion Criteria
• Individuals under 17 years old and over 30 years old.
• Individuals receiving treatment under sections 2.3.4 & 5 of the Mental Health Act.
• Anyone without a confirmed LD diagnosis.
• History of arson or significant property damage
• Individuals with a history of offences against children, considering the location of the service.
• Individuals with acute or severe medical conditions that require specialised medical care beyond the scope of the service.
• Individuals who have demonstrated an inability or unwillingness to actively participate in their own care or engage with the support provided.
• Individuals with untreated or uncontrolled substance abuse issues that may hinder their ability to benefit from the service.
• Individuals with an immediate or urgent need for intensive psychiatric or mental health intervention that cannot be net within the service.
• Inability to live with others, or individuals with a history of violence or aggressive behaviour that poses a significant risk to themselves or others and cannot be adequately managed within the service.
• Individuals with a primary diagnosis or condition that falls outside the scope of the service’s expertise or recourses.
Areas for Discussion
• Those transitioning from Children’s services would be given consideration.
• Individuals with severe physical disabilities that require specific adaptations or equipment that the service cannot provide.
