Overview

The Chestnuts started life in the form of a vicarage attached to the neighbouring church of St. Mary Magdalene which was built around c.1878 by Mrs Meynell Ingram who was ancestral to the Earls of Halifax. It was later transformed and extended in 1998 into a care home although it still retains some of the original features of The Vicarage. The Chestnuts is located in the village of Altofts close to Normanton, Wakefield, Castleford and Pontefract and is within easy reach of The Aire and Calder Navigation offering beautiful countryside views.
The Chestnuts is registered to provide residential care for up to 41 individuals with a wide range of needs inclusive of:
All levels of residential care
End of life care
Complex physical needs.
Dementia
In addition to permanent residency, we offer accommodate to individuals for short term breaks (respite) and day care which can be helpful for individuals making the transition into long term care.
We have a dedicated team of staff who are trained and committed to delivering high standards of care with a Senior staff member on duty 24hours a day to co-ordinate the care and support needs of individuals and to laise with the wider Multi-disciplinary team.
We pride ourselves on promoting dignity and respect through person centred care that is tailored to individuals needs, with residents being central to all decisions made thus promoting choice, independence and control over their lives.
Family, friends and visitors are always welcome, and we actively engage with our local community and deliver a social calendar that again is tailored to individuals preferences and previous hobbies to promote mental wellbeing and self-purpose.
