People-Centred Care Home
At St Matthews Unit we use a person-centred approach, which recognises all residents’ individual health needs, interests, hobbies, faith, and emotional wellbeing. The person-centred approach enables personalised and compassionate care so that each resident receives optimum nursing care to meet their clinical needs, as well as making them feel valued and supporting them to live each day to the full. Our spacious, light, and airy care home also promotes people’s health and wellbeing. The communal lounges, and day centre next door and courtyard area provide plenty of opportunities for socialising and relaxing. We support our residents to design and personalise their rooms to ensure they feel at home, and we encourage family and friends to visit their loved ones at any time, just as they would if they were living in their own home.
At St Matthews Unit we treat our residents with dignity and respect. Empowering them to make decisions and choices about the care they receive, while ensuring their safety and the safety of others. We encourage our residents to make their own choices in relation to meals, activities, and outings and to take positive risks that promote their independence and sense of wellbeing and achievement. Where an individual has been assessed as lacking the capacity to make safe choices, we work with the person’s wider circle of multi-agency support to determine the least restrictive path to respect their wishes and keep them safe.
