Overview

Highfield House is a 45 bed specialist nursing home for the care of adults, (18+) living with long term neurological conditions. These beds provide long term care for adults with complex nursing needs, including those on ventilator support and with tracheostomies and those in altered states of consciousness. We are striving to be an outstanding service across all of the CQC domains, (currently assessed as good by the CQC).

We provide person centred nursing care and therapy services which are individually tailored to the needs of each patient at the Home, in line with our six core values of dignity, privacy, choice, independence, rights and fulfilment. Our clinical governance framework and our risk management strategies ensure that the care and therapy delivered is safe, caring, responsive and effective. Our management structure and the support we offer to our registered managers and clinical support managers ensure the Home is well led, to enable them to focus on maintaining and developing standards of care. We are striving to achieve ‘Outstanding’ across all 5 CQC Domains.
Highfield House is a purpose build care home with 27 original beds with a new purpose built extension having been completed in November 2016 to increase the total number of beds to 45. Located on a residential street in Purley and 1 mile from Purley Train Station. 36 rooms are en suite and all have overhead hoist tracking systems installed. The other 9 beds have had their en suites removed to create additional storage space for our specialist rooms for patients requiring ventilator support. 45 of the beds are for long term care of patients with complex needs which include tracheostomy and ventilator management. The Home is fully wheelchair accessible and has a passenger lift to access to all floors. There are two large physiotherapy and occupational therapy treatment areas equipped with up to date rehabilitation equipment to meet the needs of our patient group. A range of nursing equipment is also available. There is an in-house kitchen and laundry and a range of activities are provided by our activities organiser including both in-house activities and external trips out. Staff working with patients on ventilator support are trained in ventilator care and are supported by both our in house nursing team and by a nurse specialist in respiratory care. Qualified Nursing staff are available at the Home 24 hours a day. The team is led by Alison Roberts, a qualified nurse and the Home’s Registered Manager who has many years of experience supporting the type of patients we admit. Alison is supported by our Director of Nursing, Suzanne Davey. All staff are selected based on experience and aptitude for care work including value-based recruitment and selection procedures, and undergo mandatory training including competency based assessments for the areas of specialist care we provide. All our ventilated patients receive 1:1 care over a 24 hour period.
