Overview
Sunnyside Respite Service consists of two buildings: a residential service supporting 11 individuals and a four-bed respite service. The people we support all have identified nursing needs, and we assist those with profound and multiple learning disabilities, dual diagnoses, and complex health needs.
We tailor our support to meet each person’s specific requirements, focusing on providing positive experiences. Our aim is to create a stimulating environment that enables individuals to maintain and develop their skills, with staff encouraging them to try new experiences.
We understand the importance of diverse communication methods, as behaviour that appears challenging is often linked to communication frustrations. Everyone is involved in menu planning and monthly service meetings, where decisions are made regarding activities, day trips, and major purchases for the service.
In terms of respite care, we take pride in being family-oriented, collaborating closely with relatives to ensure that routines and rituals from home are reflected, ensuring a smooth transition to our service.
The respite accommodation is fully accessible, with ground-floor rooms and specialist equipment available. Each spacious bedroom has en-suite facilities, and guests can bring any additional equipment they may need.
Our residential accommodation is also wheelchair accessible, with eight bedrooms, each equipped with en-suite facilities and specialist equipment where necessary. Additionally, there are three independent living flats designed to meet individual needs, providing opportunities to develop daily living skills and independence.
Facilities include a large activity room, an adapted kitchen where daily living tasks can be practised, and a spacious garden with patio areas, seating, and a sensory garden. The sensory garden offers a colourful, aromatic space that all individuals can enjoy, and people are encouraged to grow their own flowers, vegetables, and fruit, taking part in maintaining the garden.
