Overview
Dewar Close provides long-term residential care and short term respite care for older people and people living with dementia.
Dewar Close has been designed as three separate households. The ground floor provides a home for 11 people with easy access, whilst the middle and top floors house 16 people each and can be accessed by a lift.
Each household has a living area with a lounge, dining area and kitchenette, where people can make their own snacks and drinks, and staff are always happy to help with the preparation of hot refreshments if requested.
The open living area is a central hub for each household where people can get together and socialise with other residents, family and friends. You'll often find regular activities happening in the living area or we might be outside in the garden which has seating areas, planted spaces and raised beds as well as a cycle track for our side-by-side bike. As part of our activity provision WCS Care employs dedicated Community Musicians who deliver one-to-one or group music-based activities. Listening to music has the power to unlock memories, trigger emotions and connect people. Regular music can keep the ‘emotional memory’ topped up.
Dewar Close also has a beauty salon, offering unisex hairdressing and manicures, as well as our Buddies Bungalow which includes a bright café and plenty of space for activities such as table tennis.
Our Memory Maker minibus provides regular, local trips for residents, including those who need to use a wheelchair. We also welcome relatives on our trips so families can make new memories together.
Volunteers from The Gift of Years Rugby visit the home regularly to provide services of worship, befriending, singing groups and one-to-one activities.
