Our Background
Family at the centre of our care.
Since 1979 the Brown Family have owned Elreg House. Elreg started life as a family home and quickly opened its doors to offer help, to elderly residents in the local community. In the 1990’s Elreg House became registered to support and care for residents with dementia. With family in mind, our person-centred care approach means that each resident is respected as an individual and treated with dignity.
Our Staff
The Manager of the Home, takes a proactive approach leading the staff which means residents and family have direct interaction with the Manager as well as staff and are able to express any concerns they have directly to Management. We take feedback very seriously and keep the families involved when issues arise, this has allowed us to build great relationships with residents and their families alike.
Our carers take the time to learn each residents’ life history, with the help of the residents’ friends and relatives. Understanding the reasons behind an action can help us overcome our residents’ frustrations when they are unable to express what they want – a common problem with dementia.
The Home advocates for learning and development of the staff. Some of our staff have been with us for over 5 years which enables them to build long lasting relationship with those they care for and gain great understanding of how to best support them.
Training is provided to establish an awareness and understanding in how to treat people living with dementia and their carers with dignity and respect in order to;
- Demonstrate a greater understanding of the various forms of dementia and how these differ in terms of symptoms, progression and challenges
- Develop the skills to identify the needs that are communicated via the behaviour of people living with dementia and respond appropriately to distressed behaviour with guidance about assessing risk
- Recognise the needs of family carers and friends and enable an appreciative and collaborative relationship
- Understand the concepts of person-centred care and planning and know how to better meet the needs of people with dementia.
Facilities at Elreg House
Some features of our care home includes:
Personal name plates on room doors to aid recognition
Each bedroom filled with personal items such as photographs, certificates and other memory triggers
Secure landscaped gardens, for peace of mind
Reminiscence and music activities
Our home uses an App called LogMyCare, to support the resident's Personal Care Plans which are tailored to their needs. Their family are able to access this app to see what their loved one has been up to on daily basis. This App allows us to manage the support and care we provide our residents more efficiently.
We also have a dedicated activity co-ordinator who organises activities, such as arts and crafts, gardening, reminiscence therapy, and one-to-one involvement.
We encourage residents to carry out small tasks throughout the day, such as helping to lay the table or watering the plants, which helps retain self-esteem and involvement in daily life.
Mealtimes are an important part of daily life in Elreg House. The chefs carefully select a different menu for each day of the week, making sure residents enjoy a variety of home-cooked dishes. The chefs always use fresh ingredients to prepare delicious, nutritionally balanced meals throughout the day and night.
Both our lounge rooms have a refreshment station which provided all day access to hot and cold drinks that the residents can help themselves too. Floor staff are also in hand to provide support when needed.
Our Laundry room is based outside in the garden, we ensure that our residents clothes are promptly washed, dried and returned to the residents rooms. The clothing is labelled for ease. Given the communal nature of this facility, we might fall short sometimes but we will always have open communication with family to resolve any matter.
