Respite care at Lauriston

Respite care, also known as short-term or short-stay care, is a temporary living arrangement at a care home. It gives both carers, and those being cared for, a bit of time off and a chance to recharge their batteries.

At Lauriston, we offer residential, nursing and dementia respite care. Everyone staying with us for a respite break will receive personalised care, tailored to their individual needs. They’ll have their own furnished room and be encouraged to take part in the life of our home and the many activities on offer.

Where are we?

We’re situated in St Leonards on Sea less than a mile from Hastings town centre and the coast. We have easy access to local amenities and shops. We welcome visitors anytime and would love to see you at our coffee morning on the first Tuesday of every month.

Award-winning music therapy

Our care home in St Leonards on Sea is committed to providing alternative therapies such as music therapy to help alleviate isolation and the symptoms for those living with dementia. Our trained and award-winning therapist is funded by charitable donations. They interact directly with residents through live music therapy sessions. This includes singing, playing simple percussion instruments or responding to musical cues in a one-to-one or group setting. Take a look at our video to find out more about this life-changing therapy.

Chaplaincy and pastoral support

Lauriston is proud to be supported by a dedicated Chaplain, who offers pastoral support to all, whatever their beliefs. Our Chaplain is in the home four days a week, providing a listening presence, companionship and one-to-one pastoral support for all residents, their friends and relatives, and staff members - irrespective of their beliefs - and organise worship for those who wish to participate. Where appropriate, residents are encouraged to maintain links with local faith communities.

Activities, trips and events

Our Activity Coordinators work hard to keep our residents active and entertained with a fun-packed weekly calendar. Activities include: singing, bingo, quizzes, games, baking, afternoon tea and coffee mornings, animal visits, film afternoons, flower arranging, gardening (outdoors and indoors), craft sessions and knitting. We also hold Church services three times a week plus personal support from our Chaplain who is employed at Lauriston.

Our beauty salon offers hair and nail care and hand massages - giving residents a chance to be pampered! And exercise sessions help keep residents active.

We also take residents on weekly shopping trips and regularly invite outside entertainers into the home. Our residents tell us what they would like to do, and we do our best to make it happen.

And we love any excuse to put on a themed event. Throughout the year you’ll see events including, Pancake Day fun, Valentine’s Day meal and an Easter Extravaganza.

Seize the day – making unique and memorable opportunities

Funded through charitable support, every MHA care home also prides itself in being able to offer unique and memorable opportunities and activities for residents to quite literally help them 'seize the day'.
