Overview

Ridgeway Rise is a residential and nursing home in the Blunsdon St Andrew area of Swindon, which can accommodate just under 75 residents - it has a 'Good' rating from the CQC. Care can be provided for those with dementia. Ridgeway Rise also offers the following short stay services; respite care.
Ridgeway Rise Care Home open in March 2019 in a new purpose built care home (built in 2016).
Team at Ridgeway Rise flourished under Bella’s coaching and support. Growing her own instead of employing directly qualified staff, Ridgeway Rise is now having 4 Registered Nurses with level 4 or 5 in Leadership and Management, apprenticeships for: admin, activities, and carers. Under Bella’s leadership her team has been recognised in different wards: CCG Nurse of the Year, Regional finalist in British Care Awards for Auxiliary and Frontline leader, National Finalists for Care Planner, Chef, Activity and Volunteer of the year. In house trainings are tailored to the needs of the current residents, based on feedback and lesson learnt. The inhouse trainers are delivering the sessions in such manner that information is easy understood by the team and followed in practice. Taking positive risk and empowering residents to be more independent and enjoy the experience, the home Quality Audit increased in the last 12-month from 81% to 93%. Health and Safety Audit marked 97% in July 2023.
Support is given to other homes: Induction for new commission homes and new managers. Ridgeway Rise care planners are supporting other care home teams by delivering training sessions or 1:1 coaching.
Continuous sicking feedback on eReceptions and meetings, to improve resident’s experience. Residents are taking part in interviews, choosing their own Chef, being involved in developing the menus, the activity planner and garden landscaping.
Bella’s mentors T-level and nursing students in placement, increasing the home revenue.
With increased attention to details, home supported 2 residents to be discharged back home this year.
Kinga devoted her life to learning and sharing her knowledge and experience of understanding symptoms and behaviours of dementia. She is one of the home trainers who enrich the lives of our residents by training staff in Moving and Handling and Service Standards. Kinga is an active part of Dementia Action Alliance, working with other businesses to make Swindon dementia friendly. As a Dementia Champion for Alzheimer Society Kinga trained Cross Street Taxi drivers, Haart estate agents, domiciliary care caregivers, scouts and volunteers in the hospice. Kinga supports EBP Spotlight on Careers, where she educates students on dementia and roles within a care home in Swindon, Cirencester, Oxford and Reading. Kinga runs social media pages for the Home also coordinates volunteers’ work within Ridgeway Rise. Under her direct supervision, Ridgeway Rise added a new British Care Award trophy with the winner for Un-paid Care worker in November 2023. She built a strong network of the community support which allows her to organise fundraisers and sponsorship for competitions she organises for schools. She arranges for school children to get work experience or have volunteering opportunities in a care setting (Story Reading Days, dance and singing performances, Duke of Edinburgh). Her tremendous support raised the home reputation and visibility in Swindon and surrounding area. No missing wages or loss of holiday under her administration.
Cristian is always placing resident’s safety and wishes as his priority. He is involved in interviews to ensure the right people are delivering the care. He identified the importance of a stable team, and staff turnover reduced considerably under his leadership. Mentor for nursing students, increasing home revenue.
Care plans he develops evidence resident’s input, their strengths and uses innovative ways to support their independence. He involves all departments in evaluation of care and highlights the improvements. He identifies the importance of keeping people active and works together with activity team to maintain people’s hobbies. Discharged one resident back home.
Cristian maintained strong professional relationships who with GP, Dementia Team, TVN, SALT, Dietician, and others generating new enquiries.
To ensure that his residents are experience quality care, Cristian trained as Home Trainer, Champion for: Dysphagia, Infection Control, Tissue Viability, First Aider. Tailor his trainings for residents needs.
Valentine put all his effort into implementation of electronic care planning in Ridgeway Rise. He worked endlessly with both day and night teams to ensure that best practice is reflected in the newest technology used. Extremely enthusiastic in Planday implementation he took charge of this project as well and is the ’Planday guru’ in our home.

  • Care Concern Group - Nurse of the Year 2023 - Valentin Joita: Valentin is a team member who grown within the organisation. He had wonderful feedback from the CQC inspector when he welcomed her into the home at 5.30am in 2019. His determination and devotion were paid off when he was successful in Deputy Manger interview. Since them he is proving himself every day. As a Registered Nurse and Home Trainer, he is peer assessing the team members and their practice every time of the day. Highly passionate about the Service Standards he ensures on a daily bases that melas as served as per restaurant services and gathers feedback from residents and visitors. Valentine put all his effort into implementation of electronic care planning in Ridgeway Rise. He worked endlessly with both day and night teams to ensure that best practice is reflected in the newest technology used. Extremely enthusiastic in Planday implementation he took charge of this project as well and is the ’Planday guru’ in our home. Valentin undertook the training for Gold Standard Framework. He supports all team members to ensure the best end of life experience is achieved and gather evidence of this practice to submit for registration. Ridgeway Rise agreed to support the University of Bristol with the Respiratory Tract Infection in care Homes – Afri-c Study. He collected and centralised all info needed on the daily bases and supported the University with their research. For his hard work, the home has been rewarded with 15 air filters. Valentin is also a First Aider and Fire Marshal, successfully covers the home in the managers’ absence.

  • Care Concern Group - Tayla Smith - Carer of the Year Award 2024: Tayla commenced her career in Ridgeway Rise in February 2020, unexperienced, shy, and lucking confidence. Tayla grown so much, is currently undertaking Apprenticeship level 3 with Swindon College and has the best feedback for teachers. Her support is not limited to residents only. She is a tremendous support to nurses: check vital signs, writes care plans, supports new starters. Her residents have a great dining experience, wishes fulfilled and everyday is a new experience. Taker residents out shopping, organising birthday parties and joins activities with them. Tayla developed a busy board for one of her residents with high reduction in his distress. Learn key words in Italian to support her two resident’s Italian speakers and most of all, she supported a resident to be discharge back home. Paying attention to details, she supported resident to regain confidence, to be more independent and to take positive risks. Tayla to make a positive impact on the lives of our residents. Getting to know their stories, their preferences, and their unique personalities allows Tayla to provide personalized care that truly addresses their needs. Witnessing the physical and emotional struggles of our residents can be emotionally taxing. Although Tayla is having her own struggles with her anxiety and depression, those challenges are counterbalanced by the deep satisfaction of knowing that she is making a difference in their lives. While the role of a carer is incredibly rewarding, it also demands a great deal of emotional and physical energy. Tayla is our ambassador in resilience.
