About Us
Waterbeach Lodge is a stunning, purpose-built care home situated on the A10 Ely Road, located in the quiet village of Waterbeach. The home enjoys views over the countryside and is set in six acres of beautifully landscaped gardens, and has a rich history - the original site was established in 1818, becoming a Convent for Nuns of the Carmelite Order in the early 1900’s. From the 1970s onwards the property has had various uses, eventually falling into disuse, before being lovingly rebuilt as our impressive, modern and welcoming care home close to Cambridge.
Unlike traditional clinical settings, Waterbeach Lodge focuses on a "hotel-style" aesthetic, with the architecture and interior designed to be accessible, light and airy, with plenty of communal spaces where Residents can meet and converse, partake in daily activities or simply enjoy the views of the wildlife that frequent the extensive grounds in which the care home stands. The top floor is now dedicated to dementia care, where the large, low-sill windows allow residents an elevated perspective of the gardens and the surrounding Cambridgeshire landscape. It is known for its blend of modern facilities and a warm, "home-from-home" atmosphere. All bedroom suites are capacious, fusing contemporary comfort with timeless glamour and heritage, and have en-suite facilities, direct-dial telephone and television points, alongside state-of-the-art adjustable orthopaedic beds and an emergency call system as standard. The spacious design of every suite means that wheelchairs and hoists can be accommodated throughout the home.
Stepping into the reception area, there is a country house hotel feel to the lobby with reception desk and seating. From there, move towards one of the lounges or the dining hall, with comfortable seating and plenty of natural light, or choose one of the quieter zones, like the well-stocked library, tucked away from the larger lounges and offering a sanctuary where residents can sit comfortably with a good book (with large print and audiobooks available), engage in a game of chess, or once again enjoy the splendid views. Alternatively, find out what’s happening in the hobby room, or indulge yourself at the hair and beauty salon.
The dedicated Activities Coordinators curate a weekly schedule that balances lively social events with quiet, focused pursuits. This includes fashion shows, music and movement, community singing, dancing, art and crafts, cards, quizzes and other games, where residents can participate as much or as little as they like. Waterbeach Lodge holds a monthly non-denominational service of worship, and regular fitness activities like chair yoga and flexibility sessions. The gardens provide the opportunity for a gentle stroll in the fresh air or to relax on the terrace, and there are regular excursions to museums and botanical gardens, or simply popping out for a pub lunch. The choice of activity is limited only by imagination.
Waterbeach Lodge encourages visits from family, friends, children and pets at any time. If you're considering a stay and would like to look round, it's recommended that you call ahead to arrange this, just so that a member of staff can be on hand to answer any questions.
Waterbeach Lodge was awarded Veteran Friendly Framework (VFF) Accreditation in 2025, having designated Armed Forces Champions and trained staff to support and deliver the VFF framework.
