About Us

Bay Home Care was created In 2014 after Grange Over Sands residents Sarah McDonald (Social Worker) and Phil McDonald (Registered Domiciliary Care Manager) combined their skills and experience and set up a care company aimed at making a real difference.

“After being involved with the care and support of local residents for a number of years, I had noticed the lack of person centred support for those living in their own homes. Many of the support services available had been supplied by large organisations sending in teams of different carers from Kendal, Barrow and sometimes Morecambe. This resulted in call times designed to the suit the company and not the individual and a large number of different support workers” – Sarah

Rather than create another homecare company focussed on setting up multiple offices, charging expensive rates, bidding for large contracts, recruiting large staff teams with high rates of turnover. Bay Home wanted to stay small and local to Grange-Over-Sands and the immediate surrounding areas.

“After managing a large area with a national company, it was clear that despite the good intentions, as companies grow, they lose that personal touch that makes a real difference for those they support and those they employ. Eventually employees and clients are reduced to numbers on a spreadsheet. We wanted to offer an alternative” -Phil

Having a small team of highly trained and local carers provides the flexibility and consistency in care that many larger organisations can not offer. The managers work along side the team, offering a level of accountability that would be difficult to replicate in larger organisations with multiple offices and complicated staff hierarchies.

“At the start of our journey, we wanted to focus on quality rather than quantity, we are still committed to this goal” – Phil & Sarah

Bay Home Care Ltd is fully registered with the Care Quality Commission and well known in the community for their ability to provide well trained local staff to those with a support need. Small enough to be responsive and flexible, but large enough to manage complex care packages with the level of professionalism and expertise attained from a strong background in Social Care.
