About Us
Introduction:
Liver Care and Housing (LCH) is a specialist provider of supported housing and related services for individuals experiencing severe and enduring mental health difficulties, substance misuse issues, and other complex support needs. The organisation was established to address the growing need for stable, safe and supportive accommodation for vulnerable adults who may struggle to access or maintain mainstream housing without additional assistance.
Housing is widely recognised as one of the most important determinants of health, wellbeing and social inclusion. A secure home provides the foundation from which individuals can access healthcare, build relationships, engage with education or employment opportunities and work towards greater independence. For people living with mental ill-health or recovering from addiction, appropriate housing can be a critical factor in preventing homelessness, reducing hospital admissions and supporting long-term recovery.
LCH was formed as a charity on 10 December 2014 and has since developed a strong reputation for providing quality accommodation and housing-related support services across Merseyside. Through a combination of professional housing management, partnership working and person-centred support, the organisation seeks to create positive outcomes for residents while contributing to stronger and safer communities.
Over the years, LCH has successfully maintained its housing stock, delivered effective tenancy management services and supported residents to sustain their accommodation and improve their quality of life. The organisation continues to operate in a financially responsible manner and remains committed to delivering services that meet regulatory expectations, charitable objectives and resident needs.
History and Development:
The establishment of Liver Care and Housing was driven by a recognition that many individuals with mental health challenges and addiction-related issues face significant barriers in accessing suitable housing. Traditional housing provision does not always provide the level of support required to enable vulnerable people to maintain a tenancy successfully, leading to increased risks of homelessness, social isolation and repeated crises.
LCH was created with the intention of bridging this gap by providing accommodation combined with appropriate support and partnership working. Since its formation, the organisation has focused on developing a small but effective portfolio of properties specifically designed to meet the needs of people requiring supported housing.
Throughout its development, the organisation has maintained a commitment to delivering personalised services that recognise the unique circumstances of each resident. This approach has enabled LCH to support individuals who may have experienced repeated housing breakdowns, periods of homelessness, institutional care or long-term health challenges.
As a small provider, LCH benefits from maintaining close relationships with residents, referral agencies and partner organisations. This enables the organisation to respond flexibly to changing needs while maintaining strong oversight of service quality and performance.
The organisation has evolved steadily over the years while remaining focused on its original purpose: providing safe, secure and supportive housing that promotes recovery, independence and community participation.
Purpose and Objectives:
As a registered charity, LCH exists for public benefit and operates in accordance with its charitable objects. The provision of social housing forms a key element of these objectives and reflects the organisation's commitment to supporting some of the most vulnerable members of society.
The organisation's charitable purpose extends beyond the provision of accommodation. It seeks to improve health, wellbeing and social outcomes through housing-led interventions that enable people to achieve greater stability and independence.
The principal objectives of LCH include:
• Providing high-quality supported housing for individuals with mental health and addiction-related needs.
• Preventing homelessness and housing instability among vulnerable adults.
• Supporting residents to maintain tenancies and develop independent living skills.
• Working collaboratively with statutory and voluntary sector organisations.
• Promoting health, wellbeing and social inclusion.
• Reducing inequalities and barriers to accessing appropriate housing.
• Contributing to stronger and safer communities.
Through these objectives, LCH seeks to create lasting positive change in the lives of residents and support wider social and community outcomes.
The Need for Supported Housing
Across England, demand for supported housing continues to increase as public services respond to rising levels of mental ill-health, substance misuse and housing insecurity.
