Overview
Corton House is a 42-bed residential care home for older people, situated close to Norwich city centre but enjoying the leafy surroundings of mature walled gardens and with a variety of bright and comfortable communal rooms.
The home was established 70 years ago, among the first purpose-built care homes for older people in the UK, and still operates as a not for profit today: in care for the right reasons and built upon the Christian ethos of community and kindness. Although regular worship and pastoral services are available from the dedicated Chaplain, the home is open to people of any faith or none.
Hailed as a pioneer in social care back in 1952, Corton House continues to stand for innovation today, with its progressive approach to residents’ wellbeing. One of the cornerstones of this is the home’s holistic activities programme, offering something beyond the standard knitting and board games – although there is plenty of time for those too!
Corton House regularly partners with specialist arts and cultural providers, and has strong community links with local schools, businesses and charities allowing plenty of opportunity to socialise and learn something new. Recent examples include British Sign Language taster lessons, clay sculpture making inspired by local wildlife, natural ink making and collaborative poetry writing with a local school.
There is no 'one size fits all' approach to care at Corton House, each resident is treated as an individual and supported to make their own choices, from where they take their meals right down to how they like their perfect cup of tea. Meals are freshly cooked using local ingredients where possible, with all dietary requirements catered for. Residents can enjoy an ever-changing variety of delicious meals, as well as access to snacks and drinks all day long. The kitchens have a 5* food hygiene rating (last inspection, May 2024).
